You will often find this stitch in lace or when there is a need for a little decoration.
It can be done in different ways depending if you want to get a huge or a small nupp, with or without a crochet hook.
How to knit Nupps?
First way
1. On the RS row, work to the place where you plan to make a nupp.
2. Make a nupp as follows: knit the next stitch, but don't drop the stitch, *make a yarn over, knit one stitch more in the same stitch* (repeat from * to * once or two or three times etc.) - in this case you repeat twice more. You get 7 stitches into one.
The more usual nupps are made with 7 stitches but sometimes, you could make them with 5 or 11 stitches.
3. Insert your left needle from left to right through all these stitches and pull the thread through them.
4. And you get a nupp.
Second way
1. On the RS row, work to the place where you plan to make a nupp.
2. Put the stitch on a crochet hook.
3. Make 7 sts on your crochet hook as in the knitted way (see above)
4. Make a yarn over, pull the thread into 5 sts. You have 3 sts on your crochet.
5. Make a yarn over and pull it into the 3 sts, You have 1 st on your crochet.
6. Put this stitch on your right needle
7. And you get a nupp
