If you've recently joined the knitting community, you've probably discovered the concept of KAL and even MKAL!
I admit that when I first started knitting on Ravelry, it took me a while to understand what this meant. I understood that KAL was the condensed version of Knit A Long and MKAL the condensed version of Mystery Knit Along.
But you still had to understand the concept!
Let's take a closer look at what a KAL is! (and that will give me the opportunity to introduce you to the MKAL that I'm launching this October 1st for the Advent period).

1. What is a KAL and an MKAL?
1.1. Definitions
KAL = Knit A Long; in French: let's knit the same piece together.
MKAL = Mystery Knit A Long; the previous definition adds a touch of mystery.
1.2. Principles of KAL and MKAL
First of all, I'll tell you a few words about the KAL principle: several people decide to knit a model together, at the same time, in a given time (but not always).
This will allow you to help each other and train each other and to be able to finish a project that you would not have finished normally, or even to embark on a project that you would not have dared to do alone.
So what about the MKAL? The principle is the same as for the KAL: you will knit a designer's model together but without knowing what the final result will look like!
You will receive a clue according to a specific schedule and you will gradually discover where the creator is leading you.
I think we can compare it to a knitting escape game 🙂
It's generally a moment full of euphoria, some people check their email to be the first to do the clue, take photos, post them... others take time to think, look at the results and then adapt their colors... in short, it's really a special moment.
2. Tobias, my new MKAL
If you follow me here, you know that I am a pattern designer.
Some of you even know that this isn't my first MysteryKAL.
Usually I offer shawls with different techniques.
This year, I decided not to do like the previous MKALs, the concept changes completely.
At the beginning of 2020, I had the opportunity to meet Sylvain Daudier, a French illustrator living in Belgium, and from there the idea for Tobias was born.
How can I tell you about Tobias without revealing too much... let's see...
2.1. Tobias, The Not So Big Bad One
Tobias is an old bachelor who dreams of joining the tattooed biker gang. He will do everything he can to make his dream come true before Christmas...
So that's the pitch... so it's about a character that you're going to knit during the Advent period.
You will receive knitting clues regularly (almost every day) during the Advent period (from December 1st to 24th).
This will allow you to put something under the tree for a little (or big) man or a little (or big) girl. Or keep it for yourself 🙂
But it won't just be a character to knit! With thee-book that I created for the occasion, you will discover an unpublished story of Tobias, a story that will allow you to tell and create the adventures of Tobias.
Additionally, if you want to go even further, we have prepared kits for you:
- A complete kit with everything needed for Tobias and his outfit and some goodies
- A small kit with the necessary materials to knit Tobias You can then draw on your wool stocks to knit his collection.

So there are three options for participating in the MKAL: purchasing the ebook and the story alone, purchasing the ebook, the story, and a simple kit, or the whole package! Something to suit every budget!
