Bobbles, a bobble sweater
1. The story of Bobbles, this cropped sweater
During lockdown, I bought the Scheepjes color pack on a whim. Around forty 10g mini balls in almost all the colors available in Stone Washed and Riverwashed.
It took me a long time to find them a project, not really knowing where I was going.
While sorting through my wool, I found a kit that I had bought to make the stole Hygge, CAL Scheepjes of the year 2017. Project started and never finished.
When I saw these 10 balls of black, I thought a sweater would be the perfect project to use them in.
This is how Bobbles was born.

2. The construction of this sweater
If you follow me on social media, you know that I very rarely offer sweaters constructed from the bottom up and this one is no exception.
This is a top-down sweater, starting with a few rows of 1x1 ribbing. It is then finished with rows of bobbles in a contrasting color.
Once this part is finished, you will tackle the body which is knitted in jersey and seed stitch revisited in contrasting colors.
You will finish the body with 1*1 ribs.
The sleeves are then taken up and finished with the same pattern as for the body and also finished with 1*1 ribbing.
3. What level should I use to knit Bobbles?

This pattern is not very complicated to knit but it is still not intended for beginners.
The most difficult points you might encounter are:
- the bobbles part where you have to manage increases and decreases
- to follow the contrasting threads to the back of the work for the revisited sowing point
4. Where to buy the pattern?
The pattern is for sale on the site Ravelry in French, Spanish and English, available for immediate download. It is also available on the website Lovecrafts and on Makerist.
5. Sizes available for this cropped sweater
Sizes
XS [S, M] [L, XL] [2XL, 3XL]
The pattern is therefore available from 91 cm to 145.5 cm chest measurement (finished knitting) and the expected ease is 15 to 20 cm.
To understand the ease, I suggest you watch the video below:
It can be worn with more or less ease (in the photos shown, the ease is 15 cm for a size M).
6. The wool and materials needed to knit this sweater
The suggested yarn is Scheepjes Stonewashed (78% cotton, 22% acrylic) about 857 [950, 1058] [1148, 1241] [1324, 1412] m in the main color or 7 [8, 9] [9, 10] [11, 11] balls and 195 [213, 229] [246, 264] [284, 302] m or 2 [2, 2] [2, 3] [3, 3] balls in different colors. If you want to knit something identical to the prototype, the yardage per color is detailed in the pattern.
You can of course use another composition such as twisted merino, a blend of merino and silk like Angelina which is a yarn with a core of silk and blown merino. The yarn must have a certain hold to prevent the neckline from widening too much (you can also reinforce it with a row of single crochet).
The necessary equipment is as follows:
- 3.5 mm circ. needle 100cm long
- 3.75 mm circ. needle 100cm long
- 5 double-pointed needles 3.5 mm for small circumferences (sleeves or collar) if necessary.
- 5 double-pointed needles 3.75 mm for small circumferences (sleeves or collar) if necessary.
- 1 tapestry needle
- 1 marker
7. Why Bobbles?
Finally, why did you name it Bobbles?
I think the pattern speaks for itself, this kind of stitch is called Bobbles in English. So I didn't dig deeper into the question by naming it Bobbles!
I hope you'll love this sweater and that this article will make you want to knit it.
