The Altaï hat is worked in an exceptional yarn, it is at the same time light, warm and incredibly soft.
Its name pays homage to the Altai Mountains, cradle of the nomadic peoples who inspire the Echos des Steppes collection.

Yarn

You will need DK weight yarn to knit it.

I used NOBLE NOMADS Camel DK (100% camel) 200 m / 100 g approx. 150-160 [170-180] m or 1 skein.

Gauge

28 sts / 36 Rds in Ribs (see Brim) per 10 cm / 4” in the Rd after blocking with smaller needles
26 sts / 34 Rds in Ribs (see Brim) per 10 cm / 4” in the Rd after blocking with larger needles
Unstretched horizontal gauge: 12 cm / 2” per chart repat at the widest point with 3.75 mm needles

Notions

  • 40 cm (12’’) 3.5 mm (US4) circ needle for smaller size
  • 40 cm (12’’) 3.75 mm (US5) circ needle for larger size

Construction

This hat is worn with a negative ease of 8.5 to 11.5 cm.
The hat can be worn with a folded brim for a snug fit, or an unfolded brim for a slouchy effect.
