Yarn

You will need a DK/aran yarn to knit it.

I used Hobbii Friends Wool 100m / 50g (100% merino) to knit it in whippet size. You will need the following quantities:

CC1: 220 (275, 350, 445) m or 2 (3, 4, 5) balls in Anthracite color
CC2: 80 (100, 150, 210) m or 1 (1, 2, 3) balls in White color
CC3: 51 (62, 79, 99) m or 1 (1, 1, 1) ball in Blue

Gauge

20 stitches / 28 rows in stockinette stitch in the round for 10 cm after blocking

Notions

  • 1 4 mm circ. needle 60 to 80 cm long depending on the size
  • 5 3.75 mm DPNs for small circumferences (neck)
  • Set of 4 mm (US 6) for sleeves or needles for your prefered method of small circumference knitting for sleeves
  • 1 tapestry needle
  • 2 markers (if needed)

Final measurements

50 (59, 70, 80) cm chest circumference

Construction

This sweater is knitted in one piece starting with the turtleneck cowl.
First work the turtleneck in the round, placing a hole at the base of the cowl for the leash opening. If you’re using a harness, you’ll need to place and mark the location of the harness on the yoke.
You will need to take your dog's exact measurements to choose the most suitable size and lengthen the armhole if necessary.
Choose the size based on the chest circumference and then the neck circumference. If the neck circumference does not match the chest circumference, you will need to adjust the number of stitches at the neck to obtain the same number of stitches at the beginning of the yoke (this is particularly true for crossbred dogs, which generally have a stronger neck than purebred sighthounds).

Level
